Honda to sell only…in India

India (Commonwealth) _ Honda Motor Company intends to develop sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) solely in India in order to capitalize on the burgeoning category. The company’s priority will be electrification.

Honda is betting big on the Indian market and has revealed a five-car strategy for the country. Honda is making big changes in their approach in India as part of their worldwide aim to attain carbon neutrality by 2040. Honda’s President and CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, just presented their new game plan, which centered on SUVs and electrification.

Honda has taken a strategic choice to sell SUVs solely in the Indian market. This initiative is in reaction to India’s brisk demand for SUVs.

“By 2030, we plan to launch five more models, including Elevate-based EVs and other SUVs,” Takuya Tsumura, President of Honda Cars India, added. We would be able to compete against other firms and truly succeed with those on the market.” Honda hopes to increase sales by 35% in the second part of the fiscal year by introducing the Elevate SUV.

Mibe emphasized Honda’s global objective of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040, with benchmarks established for 2030, 2035, and 2040. He stressed the importance of the Indian market, citing its quick progress toward electrification for both automobiles and two-wheelers.

Honda plans to deliver its first entirely electric car in India over the next three years, based on the newly introduced Elevate SUV. According to Honda Motor Co. CEO Toshihiro Mibe, they are open to cooperation for developing technologies if they are mutually advantageous.

Takuya Tsumura, president of Honda Cars India, announced intentions to launch five new models by 2030, including Elevate-based EVs and other SUVs. Honda continues to provide sedans such as the Amaze and City after dropping hatchbacks such as the Brio and Jazz. Honda Cars India expects a 35% increase in sales in the second half of the fiscal year with the introduction of Elevate.

Toshio Kuwahara, CEO of Asian Honda Motor Company, stressed the significance of the Indian market because of its size, with Honda placing seventh internationally in terms of automobile sales. He believes that the Asia Pacific area, excluding China, would be critical for electric vehicles, with India playing a key role.

Honda is open to cooperation to achieve technical breakthroughs that benefit both parties. Mibe stated their past collaboration with General Motors to build inexpensive electric vehicles, which was recently ended owing to financial viability difficulties. Mibe, on the other hand, underlined that Honda’s openness to partnerships isn’t limited to GM and that the company will examine any relationship that delivers mutual advantages.

Tsumura reaffirmed Honda’s promise to launching an all-electric SUV in three years in India. The corporation intends to invest in the introduction of five new models in the nation, albeit the actual investment estimates are unknown.

Toshio Kuwahara, a Honda executive, stressed the significance of the Indian market.  In terms of the number of automobiles sold, we already rank seventh in the globe.  He stated that when considering the Asia Pacific region, excluding China, electrification or the market for electric automobiles would be critical, and because India is significant, we feel there should be a focus on India as well.

The Japanese automaker is not afraid to form strategic agreements in order to progress technical advancements and boost its footprint in India. Stated, “Basically, what we believe is that as long as we can ensure a win-win relationship between the two companies, I think the alliance is valid.” Despite the failure of Honda’s agreement with General Motors for inexpensive electric vehicles, the corporation remains open to future collaborations aimed at mutual gain.
