Hospitals in Ontario receive new EV chargers

-

Ontario, Canada (CU)_ Pollution reduction in the transportation sector is crucial for Canada to meet its climate goals. This is the reason why the Canadian government is supporting and simplifying the purchase process of charge and drive electric vehicles (EVs) in Ontario and throughout the nation. This initiative, which will increase the accessibility of EV charging, will be sponsored by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).

Adam van Koeverden, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Minister of Sport, announced a $165,000 investment in Halton Healthcare representing the Honorable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, to implement a total of 36 electric vehicle chargers at hospitals in Oakville, Milton, and Georgetown in Ontario. Pam Damoff, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety, also joined PS van Koeverden.

Halton Healthcare will contribute an additional $168,500 to this initiative, making the total cost of the program $333,500. The effort is consistent with the Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan of the organization, which urges hospital personnel and visitors to reduce their carbon footprint. All electric vehicle charging stations have been implemented.

Canada has spent an unprecedented $1 billion since 2015 in making electric vehicles more cheap and charging stations more accessible to Canadians. These investments are assisting in the construction of a coast-to-coast network of chargers in communities where Canadians reside and work, while federal incentives of up to $5,000 assist more Canadians in making the move to an electric vehicle.

These investments represent another step toward Canada’s goal of zero-emission passenger vehicles being marketed in the country by 2035. Additionally, similar to the investments in clean technologies and environment conservation, this announcement too contributes to Canada’s ambitious climate change goals of creating a cleaner, healthier, and more affordable future for all Canadians.
