India (Commonwealth Union)_ India has earned a Guinness World Record for collecting the highest number of pledges for responsible use of artificial intelligence within 24 hours. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The nationwide campaign, held from February 16 to 17, received 250,946 valid pledges in a single day. The number far exceeded the government’s original goal of 5,000 participants.

The initiative was organized under the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with Intel India. Citizens across the country participated via a dedicated internet platform. The platform featured real-world scenarios and concerns about data privacy, accountability, and responsible information sharing. Participants were encouraged to think about how artificial intelligence should be used in everyday life. Those who completed the process received a digital badge and access to curated learning resources on AI.

Speaking at the summit, Vaishnaw said the campaign was designed to promote ethical and responsible use of technology. He noted that the idea was inspired by the vision of Narendra Modi, who has repeatedly highlighted the need for technology to serve society positively. According to the minister, colleges and universities across India played a key role in mobilizing students and faculty members to participate. More than 250,000 students joined the pledge drive during the 24-hour window, making young people central to the record-breaking effort.

The government intends to build on its reaction by incorporating responsible AI practices into education and innovation programs. Vaishnaw hailed the result as evidence that knowledge of digital ethics is rapidly increasing in India. He described it as a proud moment for the country and a clear indicator that people are prepared to accept artificial intelligence wisely. Officials at the summit said the campaign highlights India’s commitment to advancing technology while maintaining public trust, transparency, and accountability.
