How Kate Middleton avoided ‘worst nightmare’ on wedding day

in April 2011, Kate found the band was too big and “turning on her finger”. So she had the ring taken to royal jewellers G Collins and Sons, who attached small platinum beads inside the bottom of the ring, instead of resizing the band to give it a better fit.

“A bride’s worst nightmare is looking down and seeing her ring has fallen off,” a source told The Sun. “One can only imagine how this is magnified when you are marrying the future King of England.”

The source further noted that Kate “adores” the ring, which she almost nearly didn’t get since it previously belonged to Prince Harry. In the documentary The Diana Story, Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell discussed how the younger brother “selflessly” gave up the ring to Prince William so he could give it to his bride-to-be when he proposed.

Burrell noted that following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, Prince Charles had his sons select pieces from his late-wife’s jewellery collection to keep. Accordingly, Prince Harry picked the sapphire ring, while his brother chose a gold Cartier watch.

The duchess of Cambridge now wears the ring alongside her beautiful wedding ring that is made from Welsh gold.
