India and Qatar assess bilateral relations in areas of trade, energy, defense and healthcare

Doha, Qatar (CU)_ India and Qatar discussed their bilateral relations in a number of areas, including energy, commerce, investment, defense, food security and healthcare. The review meeting was conducted at the foreign office on Monday during the fourth meeting between the two sides. The meeting was carried out virtually.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) briefed in a statement, “The foreign office consultations provided an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including political, energy, trade, investments, defense, food security, health security, science and technology, consular, community and cultural issues”. It added, “Both sides reiterated their commitment to working closely together in these areas and further discussing new areas of cooperation”.

The statement released by the MEA said that both the countries have exchanged opinions at regional and international levels on issues of mutual concern, including cooperation at the UN and other international forums. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa division) of the MEA headed the Indian delegation at the conference, while Ahmad Hassan Al-Hamadi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Qatari side.

The MEA said that Mr Bhattacharya appreciated the Qatari side for helping and caring the Indian population in Qatar during the pandemic time. Both sides expressed satisfaction that they remained in close contact despite the Covid 19, including the telephone conversations between PM Modi and the Amir of Qatar and the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Qatar in December 2020, giving new strength to bilateral ties.
