India likely to get 105…

-

India (Commonwealth) _ India’s participation in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, has already surpassed all previous appearances in terms of medals earned. With almost two more days left in the competition, India has 86 medals under its belt this year, including 21 golds. India can surpass the 100-medal threshold over the next two days of the Asian Games if they keep performing well. With numerous more competitors still in the running, they are now definitely on pace to do so.

India would undoubtedly finish up with 105 medals if its talented sports contingent manages to win all the medals currently up for grabs, regardless of color.

Five medals were won across disciplines on Thursday, pushing India’s overall tally to 86, within striking distance of achieving a miraculous century and fulfilling the contingent’s ambitious goal when it set out for the 19th Asian Games. India’s compound archers carried their gilt-edged form into the team events, sweeping two golds at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.

Ojas, Abhishek, and Prathamesh of India won the gold medal in the Men’s Compound Team Archery competition on Thursday at the current Asian Games in Hangzhou.

India will get closer to the three-figure mark over the next two days, and with several other athletes in contention, is now firmly on track to breach it. Nine more confirmed medals in archery (3), kabaddi (2), badminton (2), hockey (1), and bridge (1) remain to be added to the total, and two more in chess are all but certain.

It is undeniable that India’s performance in Hangzhou is already its best at an Asian Games, much outpacing the 70 medals won in 2018 Jakarta. And since 2002 Busan, when the total number of medals was a pitiful 36, it has been a long and admirable journey.

India’s 21 gold medals (up from its previous best of 16) and 32 silver medals (up from its previous best of 23) in Hangzhou are already records and demonstrate how the Olympic sport field has been widened.

Confirmed Medals from India

Kabaddi

Both of the Indian kabaddi teams have advanced to the semifinals and are guaranteed at least bronze medals. India had previously missed out on the gold medals, but this time the men’s squad appears to be a strong contender. Iran’s women are strong, so it is impossible to say whether they will also be able to win gold, but a medal is guaranteed.

Archery

Three medals are guaranteed for the Indian team in this event. One gold and at least two silver coins. The situation might also turn around, with India receiving two gold and one silver medal.

Hockey

The men’s team has already qualified for the final and has assured a silver medal this time around. In the championship game, they will face Japan, and they want to finish strong. Olympic qualification is also at risk.

Badminton

In the semifinals, Syed Modi will compete against Li Shi Feng of China and hopes to win the competition’s gold medal.

Bridge

The Indian men’s team is guaranteed a silver medal because they are in the competition’s final. They play Hong Kong in the championship match on Friday. The total number of medals won by Indian athletes now stands at 94.

Cricket

In the Asian Games semifinals, Bangladesh has not yet been faced by the Indian men’s cricket team. They would receive a silver medal if they succeeded there. Although unlikely, India will have another chance at the medal in the bronze-medal play-off if they lose.

Chess

The Indian men’s and women’s teams are in second place at the end of the seventh round on Thursday, respectively. The Indian teams should aim for gold medals, but despite that, two medals seem likely right now.

Wrestling

Indian wrestlers have had a lackluster campaign, and people like Bajrang Punia and Deepak Punia want to change that. Women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman have each given India one medal so far, and men’s freestyle will need to deliver. India is hoping to add three golds. If these all confirmed medals were secured by all super spots talents, this will be a great success of India to make it a sporty nation on par with all other progressive elements
