Indian American entrepreneur honored with Padma Shri Award in San Francisco

California, USA (CU)_ Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, who was honored with the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2020 for his charitable initiatives via the Wadhwani Foundation, received the honor at the Indian Consulate General in San Francisco, California. Due to travel limitations imposed by Covid, the Indian American entrepreneur asked that he collect the prize at the Consulate.

The Wadhwani Foundation has been an advocate for policies that expedite economic growth in emerging nations by creating huge numbers of jobs. It operates not just in India, but also in a number of other nations. Apart from being a successful entrepreneur in the technology sector, Wadhwani has spearheaded other innovative programs, including the National Entrepreneurship Network, the Startup and Small Business Initiative, and the Global Innovation Network and others.

According to a news release, the Consul General in San Francisco expressed pride and gratitude for the opportunity to deliver the award on behalf of the Indian government to Wadhwani, who has earned a name for himself as a successful entrepreneur and a prominent philanthropist. Shantanu Narayen, chairman and CEO of Adobe, who had received the 2019 Padma Shri award as well as numerous other Bay Area technology titans and venture investors attended the award event at the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, California.

Mr. Wadhwani, the founder and CEO of Symphony Technology Group, spoke about the foundation’s initiatives. He said, “Without credit inflow and proper consulting support, the short or long-term damage to India’s SME sector will be massive. The Wadhwani Sahayata (Help) initiative will be providing futuristic consulting services to the 10,000 designated SMEs so that they can survive the pandemic and come alive as thriving businesses in the post-COVID19 world. 100,000 jobs will be saved or created in the process”.
