Indian-American named the global head of technology investments

 Viral Patel has been designated as the Global Head of Technology Investing for Blackstone Credit. According to the company’s press statement, Patel, who was the former investment professional in the firm’s Tactical Opportunities Group, will now be in charge of identifying investment opportunities in the technology division and introducing entrepreneurs, businesses, and financial sponsors provided by Blackstone Credit with a diverse portfolio of flexible solutions.

Blackstone Credit is the company’s rapidly developing division, which is supported by high demand for private credit products from institutional, insurance, and retail investors. According to the media, Dwight Scott, Global Head of Blackstone Credit, said, “Viral is a world-class technology investor and will play a key leadership role on our team as we increasingly seek to support technology companies and their sponsors through private credit”. Patel expressed delight over the new appointment. He said, “I see significant opportunities to invest across the life-cycle of technology companies and look forward to growing our participation in this market”.

Patel has been with Blackstone for more than two decades and the company compliments him for the critical role in the firm’s Tactical Opportunities established in 2012 and Growth established in 2019 investment units. He has been engaged in a number of Blackstone’s technology investments, including start-up companies such as Cloudreach, Cylance, and Sema4, as well as developed companies such as Blue Yonder, FireEye, and Diligent. Patel earned a BS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering degree from Cornell University.
