SRINAGAR, India (CWBN) – Officials have stated that an Indian army officer was found dead on Monday (November 9) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district in India. Police confirmed that the death has occurred under mysterious circumstances and that investigations are currently underway in this regard.
Indian security forces had previously exchanged fire with terrorists on Sunday, leading to the death of an Indian Army officer and three security forces personnel. The deaths included one of a constable of the Border Security Force (BSF). Three terrorists were also killed.
Experts say the conflict regarding the Kashmir region predates India’s independence, which was achieved in 1947. Several Indo-Pakistan wars were fought over the disputed territory. A ‘line of control’ was agreed upon by India and Pakistan in 1972, demarking the Indian and Pakistan controlled sections of Kashmir. India controls Jammu and Kashmir while Pakistan controls Azhad Kashmir. Both countries also have several other areas under their control in the Kashmir region on their respective side of the line.
