Islamabad, Pakistan (CWBN)_ A major disinformation operation run in Pakistan by India, since 2005, was exposed by a report published by the EU Disinfo Lab on Wednesday (9th Dec).

The report claimed that numerous organisations with subsidiaries were used together with up to 750 fake media organisations and over 10 “zombie-NGOs”.

Moreover it was reported that the operation stole the identity of one of the founding fathers of international human rights law, who died in 2006 at the age of 92, and that the campaign has been running for a period of over 15 years and had global reach.

EU Disinfo Lab said that the objective of the operation was to “discredit Pakistan internationally” and influence decisions of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the EU,

Executive Director of the organisation, Alexandre Alaphilippe said “It is the largest network we have exposed.”

There has been no connecting found between the operation and the Indian government, however, relied heavily on news produced by Asian News International, a news agency based in India.

BBC reported that over 265 similar operations were exposed last year in 65 countries, all of which were traced backed to Srivastava Group based in New Delhi.
