Mumbai, India (CU)_ Top US Public Health Service has cautioned the world to avoid travel to India, even if they are completely vaccinated against Covid-19. In any inevitable cases, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends having all vaccine doses before leaving. It also assigned the country to the highest Level 4 grade, which means extremely high Covid-19 level.
In a statement for Key Information for Travelers to India, CDC said that considering the current surge of COVID-19 cases in India, it is safe to avoid travel to India. the statement said, “Because of the current situation in India, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at the risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India”.
India witnessed the highest-ever surge in new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, with more than 2.7 lakh cases recorded as a result of the extreme second wave of the pandemic spreading in the country. In response to rapid transmission of infections, many states, including Delhi, have again imposed curfews and lockdowns. Apart from the surge in virus cases and highest rate of transmission, India is suffering from drastic lack of oxygen, hospital beds, and necessary medicines. While the national vaccination campaign continues, several states are running short of vaccines too.
The CDC advisory said, “If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands”. The CDC has advised all travelers to India, including fully vaccinated individuals, to keep a 6-feet social distance from anyone and to wash or sanitize their hands on a regular basis. Also, wearing masks in public places has been made mandatory in the country. The government has also enforced strict COVID guidelines to the people.
