Indo-Canadian wins Lifetime Achievement Award!

 Indian-Canadian to receive the honorable lifetime achievement award at North America’s largest documentary film festival, Hot Docs. Lalita Krishna from Toronto was born and brought up in Kolkata and worked in the advertising industry in Delhi before shifting to Canada. After her long career in documentary filmmaking, she has been named the Don Haig Award recipient.

On receiving the award, Krishna told the media that it was a great recognition and an appreciation of her longtime work. She said, “the award was particularly meaningful as it is given to the body of work over a period of time and so it recognises a producer who’s contributed over a span of time”. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the 28th edition of the famous film festival, which lasts 11 days, is being held virtually this year and will end on Sunday.

Similar to Don Haig, the Oscar-winning Canadian filmmaker, who had been mentor to numerous directors, the award involves nominating an emerging female filmmaker who will be given a cash prize from the Don Haig Foundation. Krishna is particularly grateful for the honor because it meant paying it forward, and she chose Bangladeshi director Elizabeth D Costa to receive the cash prize.
