Indo-Pacific allies to discuss energy partnership

(CU)_Last month, India’s capacity of generating renewable energy has crossed 100 gigawatt (GW), as the South Asian nation leapfrogged to 4th place in the world in terms of installed Renewable Energy capacity. This major milestone was considered to be particularly significant India’s target on carbon-reduction under the Paris agreement involves developing a renewable energy supply of 450 gigawatts by 2030. It is believed that a largest portion of this demand is expected to be met through solar power, which is cheaper and more feasible for India, whose latitude lends itself to plenty of sun.

Therefore, as New Delhi’s major ally in the Indo-Pacific region, Australia is expected to enter into a formal energy technology partnership with India, particularly given the world-leading solar technologies that are currently being offered by the Trans-Tasman nation.
