Bengaluru, India (CU)_ Synergia Biosciences of Bengaluru has introduced a breakthrough nanotechnology-based medication for treating brain diseases. The firm has also obtained patent rights worldwide for its invention. The city-based Synergia Biosciences introduced an innovative nanotechnology-based intra-nasal platform of medication for the treatment of brain-related illnesses. The firm has also obtained patents for the platform in the United States, the European Union, India, and Japan for the same invention.

According to Synergia Biosciences, they have created a platform that allows lipophilic medicines to be dissolved for the intra-nasal spray administration. According to Sambratha Shetty, Chief Operating Officer at Synergia Biosciences, “We have patented the composition of the platform and the process to arrive at that”. Currently, the nanoemulsion platform is an ideal treatment for a variety of brain-related illnesses, including cluster headache, migraine, schizophrenia, dementia, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, vertigo, binge drinking, depression, and many others.

Ms. Shetty detailed the challenges that exist in drugs for brain diseases. She said, “One of the biggest challenges in drugs treating brain-related disorders is that it is very difficult to make the drug reach the target area. But with the intranasal route, it bypasses the first pass metabolism, increases bioavailability of the drug, and causes rapid absorption (less than 5 minutes)”.

The nanoemulsion has been stabilized by Synergia for four drugs: two antipsychotics, one analgesic, and one antiemetic. Synergia asserts that the same technology may be modified to deal with vaccines and insulin. According to Tobby Simon of Synergia Foundation, “The technology is non-invasive and mainly cost-effective. It is an affordable way to treat multiple diseases. This is a strategic technology which will help India treat multiple diseases at an affordable cost”.
