IPL 2024 auction list released: Pat Cummins, Travis Head top among 333 players

-

India (Commonwealth) _The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Player Auction roster has been revealed. 333 cricket players are expected to go up for auction on December 19, 2023, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This will be the first-ever IPL auction to take place outside of India, with the proceedings taking place in Dubai.

214 Indians, 119 foreign players, and the last two players are from partner nations make up the 333 participants registered for the mini-auction. In addition, 116 of the players who will be available for selection on Tuesday have cricket caps, while 215 do not.

When the 10 IPL teams are combined, there are a maximum of 70 spots available, 30 of which are reserved for international players. The Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions, will have the most spots to fill (12), while Gujarat Titans, the winners of 2022, will bring the most purse (38.15 crore) to the auction.

With 23 players choosing to be in the bracket and 13 players having a base price of INR 1.5 crore, INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price at the auction. In the IPL 2024 auction, a total of 23 players have placed themselves in the Rs 2 crore range. Twenty international players have placed their names in the most costly category, including Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Harry Brook. However, three Indian athletes—Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur—have placed themselves in the elite division.

Interestingly, despite having a terrific ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, young New Zealand talent Rachin Ravindra has not placed himself in the Rs 2 crore pricing range. Rachin has maintained his income level at Rs 50 lakh. In addition to Rachin, Azmatullah Omarzai, an Afghanistan all-rounder who is anticipated to get a lot of interest at the auction, has also maintained his price point around Rs 50 lakh.

After making a short debut for the Mumbai Indians in the 2023 season, England bowler Jofra Archer has withdrew his name from the IPL auction. The England and Wales Cricket Board may have asked Archer, who is now injured, to sit out games in order to prepare for upcoming competitions.

Two key considerations for franchises when deciding which players to keep or release are the new players up for bid and the big player auction that will take place prior to the 2025 IPL season, when all of the teams will be completely reconstructed.

Gautam Gambhir has been named the Kolkata Knight Riders’ new team mentor. Gambhir played for KKR from 2011 to 2017 and captained the team throughout its IPL victories in 2012 and 2014. In short, teams may trade players with one another or buy players outright with cash during the IPL Trade Window. The ultimate permission for the deal may be granted by the IPL governing council.

The team selling the athlete has the right to select which team the player signs with if numerous teams are interested in signing him. Additionally, the player’s permission must be obtained before dealing or moving them. Teams must complete and release their retention list by Sunday, November 26, when the trade window closes. The final day for player transactions will also fall on that day. The ultimate salaries of the teams will be determined by the lists of players who were moved and retained.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of India’s Twenty20 international team, is the subject of the most trade rumors ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction this year. The Gujarat Titans captain is rumored to be leaving and may make a comeback to the Mumbai Indians. The key issue now is whether Pandya would play for the legendary Rohit Sharma, who has guided the team to five titles and has been playing at his best, if he does join up for MI.

These are the questions that still need to be answered, and the whole picture won’t become evident until BCCI formally releases the final trade list.
