TEL AVIV, Israel (CWBN)_ Israelis condemned “Pakistan-sponsored terrorism”, as they paid respect to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Israelis as well as Indians held ceremonies in Jerusalem, Rehovot and Tel Aviv, to pay respect to the victims, while a virtual ceremony is also scheduled to be held via Zoom at 8 PM Israel time (11:30 PM IST) today (Nov 26). Indian Ambassador in Israel, Sanjeev Singla, and Israeli Ambassador in India, Dr. Ron Malka, are expected to participate in the virtual event.

Isaac Solomon from the southern Israeli coastal city of Eilat, said that Israel calls for peaceful nations to impose financial and diplomatic sanctions on countries which provide financial and logistical support to terrorists. “It is a matter of pride for us Israelis to have a peaceful country like India as our friend. We pray that our friendship continues to grow strong,” he added.

Ten Pakistani individuals involved with the terror group Lashkar-e-Tayyiba carried out 12 coordinated shootings and bombing attacks in Mumbai, beginning on November 26, 2008 and lasted four days. The attacks killed more than 160 people, including 6 Jews, and injured over 300 others.

The Chabad Movement’s Synagogue in Eilat will put up a plaque on Thursday (Nov 26) in memory of the six Jewish victims, while other Israelis in the city have also requested that a memorial square be built for the victims of the attacks.

Anitha Nandhini, deputy chief of mission at the Indian embassy, said that the terrorists from Pakistan intended to drive apart the people of India and Israel, by striking “the places where our countries and people come together”, and expressed her gratitude towards Israel for standing with India “in our endeavour of defeating this scourge.”

“India and Israel are now strategic partners cooperating in several spheres, including against terrorism. Both countries are in agreement that there can be no justification for acts of terror on any grounds whatsoever,” she added.
