Virat and Anushka have been married since 2017 and revealed that they were expecting a baby last August. On their respective social media pages, they posted, “And then we were three! Arriving Jan 2021.” Congratulatory messages poured in following their announcement, most of it from B town actors and close friends of the couple.

The BCCI granted paternity leave to the Indian cricket team Captain Virat Kohli. After playing his first four-match test series, he flew home from Australia at the end of December to be with Anushka during her delivery time. The team is being captained by Ajinkya Rahane in his absence.

In an interview in December, Anushka Sharma talked about parenting, saying that she and Virat Kohli did not want to “raise brats.” During the interview, she said, “There are so many similarities in the way we are as people and the way we approach life. So I do think that will work for us. I’ve been thinking about it before I even became a parent. Conditioning is the most important role in how we see the world. I come from a progressive background, so that will always be a part of our home. Love is the underlying factor in our home, and what’s important to us is that our child be respectful of people. You have to create that value structure. We don’t want to raise brats.”
