JAMB, NUC threaten to sanction varsities

NIGERIA AFRICA – There has been some trouble brewing in the education system in Nigeria. The Universities have been doing some recruiting and haven’t been very transparent about it.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board also known as JAMB and the three regulatory agencies for tertiary education in the country – the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education and the National Commission for Colleges of Education – have made it very clear that they will sanction institutions that sell application forms for the conduct of the 2022/2023 admissions.

The media went into a frenzy once this statement was made as it claimed that the universities were selling application forms for admission. This obviously against all laws as those applications that are sold could be used by anyone and not students who have the needed criteria to attend the University of their choosing.

The JAMB was concerned about the irregular number of admissions that have happened in the institutions. There was an investigation launched and this was the finding. The JAMB has taken every step to make sure that this situation is rectified. But the question stands was that enough.

Its not all institutions that have done this but yet the JAMB will be keeping a close eye on all institutions conducting their intake of students. Hoping that this will curtail the abuse.

The JAMB released a document that stated the following “Serialisation of guidelines for the 2022 admissions exercise. All applications of admissions to First Degree, National Diploma, National Innovation Diploma and the Nigeria Certificate in Education into Full-Time, Distance Learning, Part-Time, Outreach, Sandwich, etc., must be processed only through JAMB.”
