Jio World Plaza: India’s largest luxury mall in Mumbai city

-

India (Commonwealth Union)_ Jio World Plaza, the newly inaugurated luxury shopping center in Mumbai, stands as the latest opulent retail destination in the city. Unveiled by Reliance Industries (RIL) in the prestigious Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), this 750,000 square feet mall resides within India’s most expensive commercial business district. Nestled beside the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, the Jio World Convention Centre, and the Jio World Garden, this establishment serves as Reliance’s second premium shopping enclave at BKC, following the Jio World Drive introduced two years earlier.

The Jio World Plaza distinguishes itself as a “unique retail experience,” housing 66 luxury brands, some making their debut presence in India, while its counterpart, Jio World Drive, hosts brands like Apple, Diesel, Emporio Armani, Dune London, Coach, and Da Milano. Scheduled for public access from Wednesday, the plaza has been meticulously designed to cater to retail, leisure, and dining experiences, spread across four levels. Isha Ambani, director of RIL, emphasized the visionary concept behind Jio World Plaza. She said, “Our envisioning of the Jio World Plaza is aimed at bringing the best global brands to India.”

Among the illustrious brands set to make their entry into India are Balenciaga, Giorgio Armani Café, Pottery Barn Kids, Samsung Experience Centre, EL&N Café, and Rimowa. The focal points within the plaza include flagship stores from renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Cartier, Bally, Giorgio Armani, Dior, YSL, Bulgari, Versace, Valentino, and Tiffany, and others. Jio World Plaza aspires to provide an array of exclusive services, including personal shoppers, VIP concierge, hands-free shopping, as well as butler and porter services. It aims to set a benchmark among the world’s best luxury shopping malls, like The Dubai Mall, The Landmark in Hong Kong, and the Mall of the Emirates in the UAE.

Currently, India is home to four exclusive luxury malls, including DLF Emporio and The Chanakya in New Delhi, UB City in Bengaluru, and the Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai. According to a recent report by Knight Frank India, the projections indicate a significant increase in India’s ultra high-net-worth individuals (Ultra HNIs), expected to surge by 58.4% to 19,119 by 2027 from 12,069 in 2022. The number of billionaires is anticipated to reach 195 in 2027, up from 161 in 2022, indicating substantial potential for the growth of luxury shopping destinations in the country, as highlighted by Knight Frank.

Apart from catering to renowned brands, Jio World Plaza is set to house distinguished designers like Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, Rahul Mishra, Falguni and Shane Peacock, Ritu Kumar, and other top brands. The architectural design, inspired by the lotus flower, is a collaborative effort between Reliance and the US-based architectural firm TVS. The retail space is accentuated by marble floors, vaulted ceilings, and a subtle interplay of lighting. Level 1 showcases elite brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, Burberry, Tory Burch, Dior, and Cartier, while Level 2 presents names like Muji, Samsung, and Pottery Barn, vying for attention among the shopping enthusiasts.
