Kaimoo Resorts and Hotels teams up with the Maldives Coral Institute to host Coral Festival 2023

-

Maldives (Commonwealth Union)_ Kaimoo Resorts and Hotels has teamed up with the Maldives Coral Institute to serve as an official accommodation partner for the “Coral Festival 2023”. The festival will take place from April 28 to 30 at the Maldives University Campus in Seenu Hithadhoo. The festival will be attended by international coral experts and scientists, who will be accommodated at Kaimoo’s Equator Village hotel property in Gan, which is located near Addu’s airport.

Further, Equator Village offers first-class lodging, food, and spa services for both local and overseas guests and is well positioned to explore Addu’s unique natural environment and pristine marine biodiversity. The Coral Festival will also bring together environmentalists, local NGOs, political leaders, and members of the public to debate the Maldives’ coral reefs and marine ecosystems. The three-day festival will feature workshops, music, southern food, stalls operated by NGOs, games, and other events for kids. The festival also offers free entry, and the last day will have a number of excursions that showcase Addu’s unique ecosystems.

The Maldives Coral Institute organized a coral festival in 2020 at Kaafu Thulusdhoo, which gathered the island community, scientists, NGOs, environmental activists, and ocean experts to commemorate the Maldives’ coral life. According to Kaimoo’s Managing Director, Manih Mohamed, Kaimoo strongly believes that preserving the country’s beautiful coral reefs is crucial for ensuring its future, which is why the company is teaming up with the Coral Institute for this festival to generate as much awareness as possible about preserving these pristine reefs.

Kaimoo takes several conservation and sustainability initiatives throughout its properties. In 2019, Equator Village committed to preserving all its existing seagrass beds, which cover around 7,600 square meters, as part of the #ProtectMaldivesSeagrass mission. Moreover, Kaimoo has removed all single-use plastics from all its properties. Kaimoo Resorts and Hotels was founded in 1979, and is a top Maldivian tourism company that operates five properties across the nation, including Equator Village, Summer Island Maldives, a beach resort famous among honeymooners and couples, and Embudu Village, famous among divers for its access to the Maldives’ top diving spots.
