Kochi, India (CU)_ Today’s society is considerably more accepting and tolerant towards solitary female travelers as well as other girls traveling in gangs. Nobody is surprised anymore to see a solo woman trekking mountains or traveling on road trips, in contrast to the days when patriarchy ruled supreme in our culture. However, we still need to motivate and cheer up more of these female travelers to hop on their bikes or vehicles and explore the world.
Accordingly, Kerala Tourism board is actively attempting to rectify the situation and provide a safe space for these brave female travelers. Many women are now traveling to unfamiliar areas on their bikes and in their vehicles as a result of this Tourism Department’s project. This new initiative will provide an impetus for more women to get on their bikes and fearlessly set out to experience the world.
The new initiative is now being tested in Beypore, Kozhikode, which is the seat of Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas. The initiative was launched last week in collaboration with the Kozhikode-based World of Women organization. Swathanthra Yathrika is a movement encouraging female bikers who visit tourist places in the Beypore Assembly constituency. The first journey, which began at Godeeshwaram Beach, drew a crowd of more than 30 women.
The minister stated that the Swathanthra Yathrika or Independent Women Traveler programme will be expanded to all parts of the state in the coming months. According to him, Kerala is one of the best destinations in India for single female travelers. He also confessed that the state’s tourist industry is currently struggling. Additionally, the minister launched Maya, a virtual assistant for WhatsApp developed by Kerala Tourism. The ceremony was presided over by Mayor Beena Philip of Kozhikode.
