Canadian authorities were informed by India, stating its fears to the Canadian authorities with regard to threats to its consulate general in Toronto and high commissioner in Ottawa, who have been directly branded in the posters about the Khalistani rally in Canada on the on the 8th of July.

Hindustan Times informed, the rally held in the name of Harjit Singh Nijjar, the Khalistan priest, who’s body was located in the parking lot of a gurdwara in Surrey, British Colombia, murdered on the 18th of June.

The poster’s clear reference to Apoorva Srivastava consulate general in Toronto and Sanjay Kumar Verma India’s high commission to Ottawa have sparked concerns in India, the report stated.

Global Affairs Canada have been informally communicated by a senior Indian official with concerns regard to their and other personnel security, reported by the Ottawa and Toronto police departments and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), responsible for diplomatic security.

In the clothing of freedom of expression, individuals are attempting to cause harm to foreign envoys, contradicting the intensions of the constitution and Canadian Law, says Verma. He went on to say that there are obligations for each right to uphold harmony and peace.

The Khalistan followers have accused India for the murder of Nijjar, who was with the separatist Sikhs for justice (SFJ) and headed the Guru Nanak Sikh.

Gurpatwant Pannun SFJ’s legal counsel, labeled it as an “assassination.” However, no motive has been qualified by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT)

Khalistan Tiger Force was alleged to be headed by Nijjar by Indian law enforcement, and said to face several terror-related allegations. An award of ₹10 lakh reward had been announced by the national Investigation Agency (NIA) for information leading to his capture.

However, Canada court has not tested any of the charges against him and SFJ upheld that it does not use violence.

EAM Jaishankar informed that India will take the issue up with the Trudeau government with regard to Khalistanis intimidating Indian officials in posters circulation in Canada, and also communicate with other partner countries where similar issues keep stirring up.
