Europe, UK (Commonwealth Union) – The Government is set to leverage its mandate for change to prioritize economic growth in its legislative agenda as it prepares for The King’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday.
It was indicated that the departments are working on over 35 bills to deliver an ambitious parliamentary session rooted in economic security, aiming to foster growth that will enhance national prosperity and improve living standards for working people.
The legislation will include a bill to enforce stringent new spending rules, designed to promote economic growth while preventing the chaos that has previously led to rising bills and widespread distress.
To ensure public finances are managed responsibly, this new bill is set to strengthen the role of the Office of Budget Responsibility, ensuring significant fiscal announcements undergo thorough scrutiny and that taxpayers’ money is handled with care.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer indicated that their work is urgent with no time to waste. He also stated that they are hitting the ground running by moving forward the laws they will require to rebuild the nation for the long-term – and their ambitious, fully costed agenda is the downpayment on that change.
From energy, to planning, to unbreakable fiscal rules, my government is serious about delivering the stability that is going to turbo charge growth that will create wealth in every corner of the UK.
The government economic growth will be in much focus with the opening parliament as the economy has been a key focus for all political parties.
The suite of bills will concentrate on stimulating economic growth by accelerating the construction of housing and infrastructure, improving transportation, creating more jobs, and ensuring clean energy. These measures aim to enhance prosperity in every region of the country.
In line with the Government’s commitment to enabling regions to drive change for their communities, new legislation will aim to generate wealth in every community and return authority to local leaders who understand their areas’ needs best.
