it is committed to employing about 300 people during the first phase of resuming activities at the Kombat Mine, when N$170 million will be injected in the new venture. The company will also invest another N$319 million, during the second phase, as the number of individuals employed will be increased to 1000 during the second phase.
The exploration and development company has already begun clearing the area for mining, while the Windhoek-based Tulela Group, which has been commissioned with conducting the actual mining activities, has also started to set up operations. “Phase one will be an open pit with a life span of five years, with a processing capacity of 30 000 tons per month (KTPM); thereafter, the output will double to 60ktpm by 2023 when we begin with underground mining,” the Trigon vice president for operations at Trigon, Fanie Muller, said.
Discussing the impact the project would have on the neighbouring communities, Muller said: “We have already started with corporate social responsibilities and outlining how such programmes will be rolled out. As we are clearing the mining grounds, we are also digging out sewerage lines, which are being replaced and unblocked. Our aim is to uplift the wellbeing of our people, which we shall not compromise.”
