L&T bags Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train project worth INR 7000 crore

MUMBAI, India (CWBN)_ India’s major construction developer Larsen & Toubro was the lowest bidder for the country’s mega contract for the Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train project worth INR 7000 crore. The mega project was bagged by L&T from National High-Speed Rail Corporation to construct 87.569 km of the Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. L&T will construct 87.569 km stretch of a bridge between Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and the Anand/Nadiad Station. A report from NHSRCL official stated that L&T was given Letter of Agreement for the C6 package contract by the NHSRCL.

The exact value of the upcoming bullet train project was not provided by the NHSRCL, but as per the reports, it is estimated to be around INR 7000 crore. Further, the NHSRCL will be responsible for the implementation and development of the bullet train project.

The reports stated that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project and that the Japanese E5 Shinkansen technology will be used for developing the rolling stock of the bullet train.

Moreover, the Mumbai Ahmedabad rail corridor comprises 12 stations in the route and will cover 155.76 km distance in Maharashtra, 4.3 km in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and 348.04 km in Gujarat. On completion of the project, the bullet train will travel 320 km per hour. With limited stops, it will cover the whole distance in approximately 2 hours, and with all stops, it takes 3 hours to cover the entire distance.

The C6 package for the bullet train project includes construction of bridges, one station, river bridges, maintenance depots, and other supplementary works. The C6 package covers around 17.2 per cent of the entire distance, which starts from the outskirts of Vadodara and runs into the outskirts of Ahmedabad with one station in between at Anand / Nadiad. 

Apart from this bullet train project, L&T also bagged another contract from NHSRCL to construct a 237 km stretch of a bridge between Vapi and Vadodara. This entire project comprises four elevated HSR stations at Vapi, Billimora, Surat and Bharuch and one train depot in Surat.
