Maldives welcomes more than 200,000 visitors from India in 2022

Maldives (Commonwealth Union)_ More than two hundred thousand Indian tourists have traveled to the Maldives so far in 2022. As the calendar year comes to a close, the most recent weekly figures released by the Ministry of Tourism indicate that India continues to be the leading source market for the island nation’s tourism. As a result, India remains the top tourist market, accounting for 14 percent of overall arrivals as of November 23, with a total of 203,812 registered tourists.

Next comes Russia ranking second on the list, accounting for 12.3% with 178,934 arrivals. The United Kingdom comes in third place, accounting for 10.9 percent with 158,855 arrivals. Other leading tourism markets for the Maldives in 2022 included Germany’s 119,865 visitors representing 8.2% of all arrivals; Italy’s 80,294 visitors representing 5.5% of total arrivals; the United States accounting for 4.8% of the total with 69,971 arrivals; France’s 41,386 visitors representing 2.8% of total arrivals; Spain accounting for 2.6% with 37,550 visitors; South Korea’s 31,140 visitors representing 2.1% of all arrivals; and Switzerland’s 30,859 visitors representing 2.1 percent of the total arrivals. The results also indicate that South Korean market arrivals have increased in recent days. 

According to the total number of arrivals so far this year, the Maldives received 131,764 visitors in January; 149,008 arrivals in February; 150,739 tourists in March; 145,280 tourists in April; 125,522 visitors during May; 110,889 tourists in June; 133,561 tourists during July; 131,862 tourists in August; 111,986 visitors in September; and 153,737 arrivals in October. Since the beginning of November, the Maldives have received 111,813 visitors, which is a 7.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2019 and a 2.3% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

According to Ministry statistics, between January 1 and November 23, the Maldives received a total of 1,456,170 visitors. This accounts for a 29.8 percent rise from 2021, but a decrease of 2.8 percent from 2019. November 12 recorded the highest tourist arrival of the month, receiving over 5,600 visitors. The daily average for the current month stands at 4,861, and the average length of stay of visitors in the Maldives is eight days.
