Mauritius Prime Minister visits India on an eight-day tour

Port Louis, Mauritius (CU)_ According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jugnauth and PM Modi will attend the WHO-Global Center for Traditional Medicine’s Ground-Breaking Ceremony in Jamnagar on Tuesday and the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

Mauritius Premier Pravind Kumar Jugnauth along with his wife Kobita Jugnauth as well as high-level delegates have arrived in India. The Mauritius Prime Minister has visited India on an eight-day tour at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation.

In addition to his formal appointments in Gujarat and New Delhi, the Mauritius Prime Minister will also visit Varanasi. According to the MEA, “India and Mauritius enjoy uniquely close ties, bound by shared history, culture, and heritage. The upcoming visit will further strengthen the vibrant bilateral ties”.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Mauritius’ Secretary to the Cabinet NK Ballah in New Delhi last week and stated that the bilateral relationship between the two nations is growing stronger with time. In January, Prime Minister Modi and Mauritius’ Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth virtually launched the India-assisted social housing units project in Mauritius. They also inaugurated the Mauritius Civil Service College and 8 MW Solar Photovoltaic Farm projects, which are being funded by India.

India has remained one of Mauritius’s top commercial partners and exporters of products and services since 2007. India’s primary export to Mauritius is petroleum products. Apart from petroleum products, the other major exports of India to Mauritius include medicines, grains, cotton, shrimps and prawns, and frozen boneless bovine meat. Mauritius’ major exports to India are vanilla, equipment and apparatus for medical and surgical sciences, needles, and aluminum alloys and others.
