MUMBAI, August 11, 2026 – Singapore Airlines has appointed Aswin K as General Manager, India, effective August 1, 2026, reinstating an experienced leader to oversee its Indian market operations. The announcement, made on August 11, 2026, brings Aswin back to India after an international assignment in the Italian market, where he was General Manager, Italy, until recently since he took over that position in 2024.
From Mumbai, he will oversee Singapore Airlines’ operations in India and also implement its growth strategy while improving relationships with customers, travel trade partners, and other industry stakeholders.
The new appointment is not a simple leadership change. Aswin replaces Sy Yen Chen, General Manager, India, Singapore Airlines, for over five years, who played an important role in enhancing Singapore Airlines’ share of the Indian market. Therefore, the change occurs at a crucial time for an aviation market, which is undergoing transformation due to increasing demand for international travel.
From Bengaluru to Milan—and back to India
Aswin joined Singapore Airlines over 12 years ago. He started his career with the airline in 2014, working as an Aviation Network Analyst, embarking on a journey that would ultimately land him in many roles, such as network planning, marketing, and various commercial leaders in different regions.
Later on, he took up the position of Regional Marketing Manager, West Asia and Africa, and then became State Manager for Karnataka and Telangana and was based in Bengaluru. Subsequently, he took on his next international role as a general manager for the Gulf and the Middle East, where he managed the airline’s commercial operations in that region.
In 2024, he shifted to Italy in his role of general manager, thus giving him views of global markets before coming back to India this month.
All this experience of Aswin can be extremely beneficial to the Indian airline industry, which is rapidly changing from the simple addition of flights to dealing with new patterns of passenger behavior, building distribution partnerships, and creating important links to the larger global networks.
