NEW DELHI (CU)_As India emerges from one of the world’s most brutal Coronavirus waves, there has been an increase in power demand as economic activity picks after a significant downturn in the second quarter of this year. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the South Asian nation is now undergoing a shortage of coal at power stations, although the country has the fourth-largest coal reserves in the world. As of Sunday (5 September), the coal supply available at nearly two thirds of the country’s coal-fired power plants were sufficient for less than a week, while four plants had no coal left, data issued by the Central Electricity Authority showed.
