India (Commonwealth Union)_ The Western Railway introduced its ‘Yatri’ live-tracking application for Mumbai local train services. The Western Railway’s Mumbai Division has fixed GPS tracking devices in all of its EMU rakes, enabling the app to deliver real-time information on the location of local trains. The app will also provide accurate information to commuters on neighboring attractions, the Mumbai Metro, and buses, among other features.
According to a statement, the Western Railway’s live-tracking application enables Mumbai residents to follow their local trains during everyday commutes. The ‘Yatri’ app, which is the official Mumbai local app and was developed in partnership with M/s CDP India Pvt. Ltd., is available for download. Daily local passengers can utilize the app’s live-tracking feature for WR Mumbai Suburban trains.
According to a media statement issued by Sumit Thakur, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the smartphone application includes a multitude of functions to assist passengers in planning their journeys easily. The Western Railway has fixed GPS tracking devices in all of its EMU rakes to deliver real-time information on the location of local trains through the Yatri app. Additionally, commuters will receive accurate information on live train updates and announcements. They will receive the most recent timetable, a map of the major train station, and its facilities. The application also gives information about surrounding attractions, the Mumbai Metro, buses, etc.
Thakur noted that the passengers will be able to not only view the train’s actual location on a map, but also watch it in motion. Commuters may view the real-time location in just three simple steps. He explained that commuters may locate the closest stations immediately on the map, enter the origin station, and monitor the local train of their choosing to determine how close or far away they are from the train in order to plan their travel.
Additionally, the application will also be Divyangjan-friendly. Google Assistant allows Divyang travelers, who control their phones using voice commands, to effortlessly know the current position of their train. They must state the directive “Talk to Yatri Railways” and give the train number. Thakur noted that Google Assistant will retrieve the live location of the train via the Yatri app and announce it to the customer.
