GLOBAL – there has been a lot of under current talk about the liquid waste that is happening at airports around the world. The situation at hand is that how can one reduce this waste.

There has been new regulation made in the lines of these wastages and how it can be limited. But some solutions are expensive and not in the least sustainable. It all comes down to choosing a solution that best works for individual airports.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has announced that according to the draft instructions the terminal operations will be made aware that when confiscating the liquids, they will be stored in a secure area and then handed over to waste management to see if it is possible to dispose of them with out harming the environment or for there to be gross waste.

Apart from this there is also the airport buggies and other vehicles that use a massive amount of fossil fuel just to keep driving and most times its not really a requirement unless an emergency arises with a passenger.

There has been research done to see if electric vehicles would be a better but there is the question of will it be cost effective. How many years before the vehicles themselves need to be replaced. How are the vehicles to be maintained and are the airports equipped for this kind of maintenance without going below the red line.

There will also be other steps taken to make sure that things like fuel leaks will be prevented on the terminals when there is a refueling being done. It is noted that this contributes heavily to the fuel waste. There are plans to get better absorbent cleaning materials so that the fuel can be squeezed out and reused for other purposes.
