5,000 cholera cases have been registered in Jigawa in just one month. If not treated on time, this infectious and lethal condition, which is caused by drinking polluted water or eating contaminated food, can result in death within a short time.
According to the media, the state and its health organizations are fighting to curb the outbreak, which has killed 653 people since March. According to reports, the northern parts of the country are under the deadly disease outbreak, where health systems are not readily accessible and are least prepared for the epidemic.

To prevent the disease from spreading, health officials have raised awareness against eating infected fruits and vegetables and drinking polluted water from riverbanks. They have also encouraged enhanced personal and environmental hygiene to stop the infection from spreading. According to a non-profit media organization, massive cholera epidemics occurred in Nigeria in 1991, 2010, 2014, and 2018. According to the data, around 43,996 people were infected with cholera and 836 people died of the disease in 2018, with a case fatality rate of 1.90 percent.
