NIGERIA (CWBN)_ The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), which took place on Wednesday (December 2), declared it was necessary for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign due to the insecurity the nation had faced, particularly insight of the recently killed farmers in the state of Borno.

Publicity and Protection Chief, Dr. Hakeem BabaAhmed from the NEF said leaders who failed to ensure security should leave the stage. Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed the president had failed in his claimed duty to protect the welfare of people during a feature on a Channels Television programme aired on Wednesday evening.

He stated that Buhari’s order to withdraw was overdue by examining the country’s current state of security and the government’s failure to cope with the situation for nearly six years.

The Forum expressed concern that there was no proof of President Muhammadu Buhari’s readiness to fight insecurity in the country by taking note of the wilful killings, banditry, and terrorism.

Specifically, the Forum expressed outrage at the recent murders of farmers in Borno and the mutilation of people in many other parts North of the country.

Baba-Ahmed regretted that many farmers were afraid to grow or harvest crops for fear of being killed or abducted.

He warned that if farmers remain unable to go to farm due to various turmoil, the country is at risk of starvation.

Also, the Forum described the position of the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, as lame and misleading when he noted that the Borno farmers did not obtain permission from the army to harvest their produce.
