Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a cutting-edge NRI facilitation booth, the ‘Punjab Help Centre,’ at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. This initiative marks a significant milestone for Punjab, being the first state to offer such a dedicated service, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting the Punjabi diaspora.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the centre would be operational 24/7, providing comprehensive assistance to NRIs and passengers arriving at the terminal. Two Innova cars are available to assist with local transportation, offering ease of movement to Punjab Bhawan and nearby locations. Additionally, the centre will help with flight information, taxi services, lost luggage, and other airport-related needs. In emergencies, rooms at Punjab Bhawan on Copernicus Marg will be available, depending on availability. Passengers can also reach out to the helpline number 011-61232182 for any assistance.

In another pressing matter, Chief Minister Mann called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident involving wrestler Vinesh Phogat, which he described as a “big blow for the entire sporting community.” Mann emphasized that the failure to manage Phogat’s weight, particularly in such a prestigious event, was a significant lapse on the part of the supporting staff. He stated that the incident has raised serious questions that must be addressed through a thorough and fair inquiry to restore public faith in the system and expose any underlying issues.

Mann’s statements underscore the critical importance of enforcing accountability within the realm of sports, especially when athletes and teams represent national interests on the global stage. His comments highlight the need for rigorous standards to ensure that those who wear the nation’s colors do so with integrity and responsibility. Moreover, Mann’s emphasis on supporting the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community, coupled with his advocacy for greater transparency in sports governance, signals a dedicated commitment to addressing pressing issues that resonate deeply with the people of Punjab. This dual focus reflects his broader vision of fostering a sense of pride and fairness both within Punjab and among the Punjabi diaspora, ensuring that the concerns of these communities are addressed comprehensively, whether they reside in India or abroad. Mann’s efforts aim to create an environment where transparency and accountability in sports are prioritized, ultimately benefiting not just athletes, but also the wider community that they represent.
