Sydney, Australia (CU)_ NRMA Insurance (NRMA), a brand of Insurance Australia Group (IAG) that was designated as Australia’s strongest insurance brand for 2022 by Brand Finance Australia, has partnered with Google Maps to develop the first program in the world for boat owners.

The program known as Ramp Rater adds precise new images of boat ramps to Google Street View and 360°, allowing boat owners to plan ahead and safely sail their way down the boat ramp. The photos will then be stamped with the NRMA’s difficulty rating to assist boat owners in determining the level of difficulty prior to visiting a ramp at their location.

According to the media, Zara Curtis, executive manager, content and customer engagement at NRMA, said, “What’s more helpful than knowing the best ramp to take your boat to? It’s simple, easy to use, strongly linked to human use of Google and keeps our customers safer by rating boat ramps from beginner to advanced”.

Ramp Rater is a significant part of NRMA’s first-ever boat campaign, which aims to educate Australians on the need of protecting their watercraft both on and off the water. So far, the idea has been implemented on 44 ramps around the country. Additionally, it enables the insurer to contribute to the usability of Google Maps in other areas, such as caravan sites, bike paths, 4WD routes, and regions in need of assistance.

The news follows NRMA’s cooperation with nonprofit contribution platform GIVIT to assist individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the New South Wales (NSW) South Coast through the COVID-19 Relief Program of the insurer.
