According to Dr. Bernard Leduc, CEO of the Montfort, the pandemic has had a significant impact on hospitals and their staff worldwide. He expressed pride over the great achievement. He said, “COVID-19 has made it challenging to run a hospital in the last year. We are therefore doubly proud that the performance of the Montfort team has not only been maintained, but even increased, as Montfort has now climbed to 55th place among all Canadian hospitals, whereas we were 61st last year. We are proud of the journey of the hospital, 25 years after being threatened to close. We are here to stay and dedicated to provide quality care to all Ontarians”.
On the list for 2021, the Queensway Carleton Hospital topped among local hospitals. According to Dr. Andrew Falconer, president and CEO of the hospital, this year’s performance is stronger. He expressed optimism over the ranking. He said, “Queensway Carleton Hospital has always been a ‘best kept secret’, but over the years we’ve been proud of our ranking as the top hospital regionally. We continue to be proud of this recognition as a Top 20 hospital in Canada. Staff have been working very hard and really care about the work they do. Congratulations to staff at QCH and to the other hospitals regionally and nationally – it has been a tough year.”
Toronto General won the top spot followed by Four Toronto hospitals in the top position of the entire list. The annual ranking rates the finest hospitals in 27 nations using data from medical expert surveys, patient experience surveys, and a variety of critical performance characteristics such as treatment quality and sanitation. Each hospital is assigned a percentage score and graded accordingly on the basis of these characteristics.
