Pakistan and the US forge new IT and telecom alliances

Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ Pakistan and the United States have agreed to enhance cooperation in the information technology (IT) and telecommunications sectors. This agreement was reached during a meeting held between the Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome. According to official statements, the discussions during the meeting revolved around various areas of mutual interest concerning IT and telecommunication. This included the digitalization of Pakistan’s judicial system and the promotion of the gaming industry.

Accordingly, Ambassador Blome expressed the USA’s interest in broadening cooperation in the information technology sector. He acknowledged Pakistan’s significant potential for growth in the digital economy and emphasized the key role of US firms in encouraging investment and innovation within the sector. Ambassador Blome also assured full cooperation from the US in the field of IT and telecommunication. During her deliberations with Ambassador Blome, Minister Shaza Fatima conveyed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to advancing its IT and telecom sectors. She reiterated Pakistan’s aspiration to deepen its ties with the US in this domain and also expressed willingness to collaborate further to develop the gaming industry.

Moreover, the minister underscored the significance of enhancing business-to-business relations between Pakistan and the US. She further revealed Pakistan’s intention to leverage American technological expertise and facilitate the exchange of IT professionals between the two nations. Additionally, Minister Shaza Fatima also highlighted that connectivity serves as the cornerstone of digitalization, emphasizing ongoing efforts to ensure the provision of quality broadband services across Pakistan. She also emphasized the significant role of the private sector in the development of the economy, noting the government’s full support for private enterprises in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.

Furthermore, Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized the current government’s focus on digitalization initiatives across various sectors of the economy, governance, and society. She reiterated that connectivity forms the bedrock of digitalization initiatives and explained the measures taken by the government to provide quality broadband services in Pakistan. Finally, Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted the key role of the private sector in driving economic development, emphasizing the government’s full commitment to supporting private enterprises in accordance with the Prime Minister’s vision. The meeting was graced by Additional Secretary MoITT, Aisha Humera Moriani; Member IT, Syed Junaid Imam; and Member Telecom, Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim.
