Pakistan celebrates its Diamond Jubilee Independence Day!

Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistanis commemorated the Diamond Jubilee Independence Day with traditional fervor, flag-raising, fireworks, and other festivities. On the 75th anniversary of independence, the federal and provincial administrations organized programs to reawaken the public’s patriotism and help them appreciate the significance of independence. Prayers were also conducted for the safety and growth of Pakistan, as well as the welfare of the people.

On the special occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised to develop Pakistan into an economic superpower and encouraged all political parties to work together to achieve this ambition as the nation marked its 75th Independence Day in the midst of a severe economic crisis. Sharif addressed the nation at the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Jinnah Convention Center. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also launched the new re-recorded national anthem of Pakistan that was composed using new advanced technologies.

He said, “A national dialogue is the need of the hour, whereby consensus may be built on a charter of economy by all stakeholders…we have to commit to becoming an economic power.” He added, “If we can become a nuclear power, we can also become an economic power but we have to strive day and night.” According to Sharif, the government will offer full support to the younger generation, since the country’s future belongs to them.

Addressing the nation on the special occasion, President Arif Alvi stated, “We need to remain united to overcome financial, economic and security challenges faced by the country. Let us pledge that we will remain steadfast to render any sacrifice for the dignity and self-respect of our people and greatness and glory of our beloved homeland.” President Dr. Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Arif Alvi paid a visit to an orphanage for girls in Rawalpindi and celebrated Independence Day with the girls. The president stated that his desire to celebrate Independence Day with orphans was realized.

To mark the country’s diamond jubilee independence day celebrations, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) launched the design of a commemorative Rs75 banknote. The bank reported that the new Rs 75 note will be released to the public beginning September 30. According to SBP, “The note has portraits of Quaid-i-Azam, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Allama Iqbal and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah to recognize and acknowledge their contribution in the Pakistan Movement. The Markhor (screwed-horned goat), Pakistan’s national animal on the note’s reverse, highlights our focus on environmental sustainability”.
