The nominations were filed the next day after Imran Khan was dismissed as Prime Minister following a defeat in a no-confidence vote in Pakistan’s 342-member national legislature. Imran Khan became Pakistan’s first prime minister to be dismissed following a defeat in a no-confidence vote in the parliament. According to Mr Khan’s first statement after his removal as Prime Minister, despite the country’s independence in 1947, the liberation war against a foreign conspiracy to overthrow the government had resumed.

While addressing the nation on Friday, Mr Khan said, “I tell all of my supporters across Pakistan, on Sunday, after Isha [evening] prayers, you all have to come out of your homes and protest peacefully against this imported government that is trying to come to power”. On multiple occasions, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chairman Imbran Khan has accused a foreign plot that is involved in overthrowing his administration. In Pakistan’s 342-member house, the opposition received 174 votes to the majority’s 172.
