PM Modi lands in Germany for G7 summit

New Delhi, India (CU)_ On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Germany on a two-day visit to participate in the G7 meeting. During the summit, the PM addressed the present challenges in energy, food security, counter-terrorism, the environment, and democracy with the leaders of the strong bloc and its partner nations. In response to an invitation from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Indian prime minister is now in Germany attending the G7 conference on June 26 and 27. Germany is hosting the conference in its position as G7 chair, a group of seven wealthiest nations in the world.

The G7 leaders are anticipated to focus on the Ukraine issue, which has sparked geopolitical unrest and exacerbated the global food and energy crises. Prior to his G7 visit, PM Modi released a statement saying, “During the sessions of the Summit, I will be exchanging views with the G7 counties, G7 partner countries and guest International Organisations on topical issues such as environment, energy, climate, food security, health, counter-terrorism, gender equality and democracy”.

According to Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has planned to conduct bilateral meetings and discussions with the G7 leaders and the guest nations on the sidelines of the G7 conference. In order to recognize the democracies of the global south as its allies, Germany, who is organizing the G7 Summit, has also invited Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal, and South Africa as summit guests, in addition to India.

Modi also expressed his desire to meet the members of the Indian diaspora in Europe, who contribute significantly to their local economies and strengthen India’s connections with European nations. On June 28, Modi will fly to the United Arab Emirates from Germany to offer his condolences on the loss of the former president of the Gulf country, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Following prolonged sickness, Sheikh Khalifa passed away on May 13.
