PM Modi to inaugurate World Sustainable Development Summit 2021 today

NEW DELHI (CU)_Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World Sustainable Development Summit 2021 on Wednesday (Feb 10) via video conferencing.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Prakash Javadeka, India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as well as representatives from Guyana, Papua New Guinea and Maldives, are expected to participate in the Summit, under the theme ‘Redefining our common future: Safe and secure environment for all’. 

The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) is an annual flagship event of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) launched in 2001. Over the years, it has brought together world leaders, heads of state and government, scholars, youth groups, business leaders and civil society representatives from across the world.

“With its focus on bringing the voices of youth and women to the forefront, the Summit intends to carry forward these vital discussions from the Global South to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow,” TERI said in its website.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a range of topics, including energy and industry transition, climate finance, adaptation and resilience, nature-based solutions, as well as clean oceans and air pollution will be discussed during the Summit which will commence at 18:30h (local time).
