President Solih attends the Commonwealth Leaders Meeting

The Maldives (Commonwealth Union)_ President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended the Commonwealth Leaders Event conducted at Marlborough House in London. The event marked the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter and the coronation of the new Head of the Commonwealth, His Majesty King Charles III, together with the Commonwealth Year of Youth and the Commonwealth Year of Peace.

The Commonwealth Leaders Event brought together Commonwealth leaders with His Majesty King Charles III to reflect on their shared values and discuss the future of the Commonwealth. The leaders discussed the potential of Commonwealth youth to advance issues such as peace and sustainable development, in line with the Commonwealth Charter.

The Commonwealth Charter reaffirms the values and principles of the Commonwealth and its objectives, and the year 2023 is being designated as both the Year of the Youth and the Commonwealth Year of Peace. Further, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Commonwealth family and investing in the 1.5 billion young people throughout the 56 nations.

The Commonwealth Leaders Event provided a rare opportunity for the Commonwealth leaders to welcome His Majesty King Charles III as the new Head of the Commonwealth. They discussed their shared values and the future of the Commonwealth, focusing on the potential of Commonwealth youth to advance issues such as peace and sustainable development, reaffirming their commitment to investing in the younger generation, and strengthening the Commonwealth family.

Following the conclusion of the ceremony, His Majesty King Charles III sat for an official portrait with the Commonwealth Heads of Government and representatives from each nation. The President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and the First Lady of the Maldives, Fazna Ahmed, paid an official visit to the United Kingdom to honor His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla during the coronation ceremony.
