Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Indian actress Priyanka Mohan has been appointed as the Honorary Ambassador for Korea Tourism, marking a significant step in South Korea’s efforts to strengthen its appeal among Indian travelers. The announcement was made by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) on June 2 as part of its strategy to attract more visitors from one of the world’s fastest-growing outbound travel markets. Priyanka Mohan, who made her acting debut in 2019, has become one of the most recognized faces in South Indian cinema. Her growing international popularity received another boost earlier this year with the release of the Netflix film Made in Korea. The movie topped Netflix’s film charts in India for two consecutive weeks and also performed strongly in several international markets, including countries across the Middle East.

With nearly six million followers on Instagram, Priyanka is expected to play an important role in showcasing South Korea’s culture, lifestyle, and travel experiences to Indian audiences. Reacting to the appointment, the actress said she was deeply honoured by the recognition and was grateful to both the Korean government and the Korea Tourism Organization for the opportunity. As part of her new role, Priyanka will spend a week exploring some of South Korea’s most popular destinations and cultural attractions. Her itinerary includes visits to Seoul Forest, Tongin Market, Solgeo Art Museum in Gyeongju, and the Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art. She will also be treated to a variety of cultural experiences including a Korean cooking class, wellness spa treatments, traditional market tours, and personal colour analysis sessions.
Additionally, the actress will attend a Gayageum Hanok concert at Solhyangjae in Eunpyeong Hanok Village and is expected to share highlights of her journey with fans around the world through social media updates. The appointment comes shortly after the success of Made in Korea, a Tamil-language drama directed by Ra. Karthik. The film was praised for blending Indian and Korean cultural themes, helping strengthen creative ties between the two countries. Many observers see Priyanka’s new role as a natural extension of that cultural connection.

KTO officials view India as a major growth market. According to the 2026 Global Hallyu Survey, India recorded an 83.8 percent favourability rating toward Korean content, ranking second among 30 countries surveyed. India is seen as an important market for South Korea’s future travelers, given its fast-growing middle class and growing interest in international travel. Fans and industry observers are happy about the announcement and view it as another step in Priyanka Mohan’s rising international profile and a positive sign of cultural exchange between India and South Korea.
