Washington, D.C., U.S.A. (C.W.B.N.)_ Following the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19, many prospective travellers had let go of their wanderlust urges, however, the new year is about to change that mind frame, at least according to the latest research data unveiled by Expedia – the travel giant. The numbers indicate that one in two travellers are optimistic about travelling within the next 12 months.

Furthermore, since the start of the pandemic over 50% of Americans who typically take a holiday have not done so. As a result, approximately 31% of them are actively thinking and planning about travel during 2021.

Monya Mandich, vice president of global marketing, Expedia Group Media Solutions, went on to say, “As the world keeps a watchful eye on vaccine news, and people continue to crave a change of scenery or opportunity to catch up with loved ones, we know the pent-up demand for travel will grow,”. She further went on to say “COVID-19 has driven a seismic shift in traveller preferences and influences, and understanding these changes is critical to recovery efforts and future marketing strategies. The new research provides insights into the steps travel brands can take to reassure and connect with travellers as they begin researching, planning and booking again.”

Further examining the research data revealed that most American are seeking safety regulation that would make it easier to travel. 75% of would-be travellers agreed that factors such as easy refunds and relaxed cancellation policies, mask compliance, and contactless services, would help guide their future travel decisions.

Study results from the Expedia Traveller Sentiment and Influences have shown that about 33% of travellers had taken a journey during the pandemic. Of those who decided to travel, 80% did so for rejuvenation—to appreciate a change of scenery, experience a change in weather, or to visit relatives or friends.

Generally, Generation – Z and Millennials travellers are more prone to travel, especially during the months of January through March while other generations will more likely travel between April and September 2021.

More than half of the survey respondents preferred to know what specific COVID-19 hygiene protocols are in place in their place of accommodation. Other factors such as contactless room service and takeout and contactless check-in options would also help in the decision-making process.

Six out of ten passengers said they would feel more relaxed flying if social distance policies were in effect when it comes to air travel. Generally speaking, passengers are searching for protective initiatives to be introduced, such as compulsory mask-wearing to be implemented.

However, all in all, a vaccine is likely to have citizens on the road again. 57% of travellers indicated that they would be happy flying if the vaccination were readily accessible.
