INDIA (CU)_ Reliance one of India’s leading companies has announced its intentions to roll out Fifth Generation (5G) technology in certain Indian cities by Diwali this year, which are likely to include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai, according to Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani.

5G technology is currently available in the United States, China, South Korea, Spain, Italy, Finland, The UK, Canada and Australia. Some of the key benefits of using 5G technology are low latency, the ability to download movies within seconds, in addition to increased capacity and bandwidth. With Over 50% of India’s population using smartphones and Tablet usage exceeding a 150 million, the technology is likely to be a popular option among India’s mammoth tech consuming market which is only set to continue in its rapid growth with its youthful population. Some Indian users have however previously expressed concerns with 5 G technology, over privacy and the possibility of being more vulnerable to hacking as more devices are connected as well as possible health hazards as a result of radiation which caused some European countries to halt 5 G technology back in 2019. The lack of encryption is also among the concerns shared together with upload speeds as more and Indians are getting on social media and starting their own blogs.

Reliance stated that it had joined with many global tech giants such as the Qualcomm to build the 5 G services as well as Jio entering a partnership with Meta where Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Meta, stated that he was excited about the partnership and it would be the very 1st end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp where users can buy groceries from JioMart right on the chat. Reliance has also collaborated with Google for cloud services amongst the many other collaborations.
