SAP establishes a Research and Development Center for deep technology in Singapore

-

SAP has announced the establishment of SAP Labs Singapore, a digital innovation center that will boost product leadership, promote local digital talent and enhance ecosystem and community involvement. SAP Labs Singapore is the network’s twenty-first site worldwide, the fourth in Asia-Pacific and Japan, and the first in Southeast Asia.

The new SAP Labs Network facility will stimulate the advancement of deep technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, as well as modern SAP solutions in digital supply chain, intelligent business network, and sustainability. SAP Labs Singapore’s goals will be accomplished through interaction with enterprises to better understand how innovation and new technologies are reshaping their ability to face challenges and generate long-term, future-ready development.

According to the latest announcement from SAP, with help from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), SAP Labs Singapore plans to hire over 500 highly experienced digital employees in Singapore by 2025, more than doubling its current Product Engineering team in the nation. As part of the initiative, around 200 digital professionals will be employed by the end of 2022 and will be posted at SAP’s newly remodeled Asia Pacific and Japan regional headquarters (APJ).

Manik Saha, who formerly served as a strategic partner for SAP Product Engineering and as the chief information officer for SAP APJ, has been named managing director of SAP Labs Singapore. Saha’s new position will focus towards making SAP Labs Singapore an engineering cluster. SAP intends to hire early digital skills from Singapore’s colleges and institutes of higher learning, with a particular emphasis on software engineering and other fields such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and sustainability.

Thomas Saueressig, member of SAP SE’s Executive Board for SAP Product Engineering and who was in attendance at the launching event, expressed delight over the launch. He said, “SAP Labs Singapore joins a network of strategic high-tech clusters, reinforcing SAP’s strong confidence in Singapore as an innovation and investment hub, its highly educated and skilled talent, and its position as a regional beacon of excellence in technology innovation and a digital future”.
