Schoolchildren invited to help with a 21-gun salute for… birthday

-

King Charles III’s birthday is on 14th November, with the celebrations this year starting from 12 noon.

The upcoming month of November will be certainly eventful for the British monarch and rest of the Royal Family

The Royal Borough will be celebrating The King’s birthday in style with the annual firing of mini cannon on The Long Walk, near the Brook Street entrance.

Schoolchildren will be invited to help wish His Majesty The King a happy 75th birthday, by taking part in the traditional 21-gun salute outside Windsor Castle, on Tuesday 14th November, starting at noon.

The annual event held on Tuesday 14th November generally attracts a sizeable crowd and the Mayor is looking forward to this very special event.

The gun salute outside Windsor Castle is a perennial tradition of the sovereign’s birthday celebrations and will be accompanied by a special tribute led by Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead mayor Neil Knowles.

The mayor said that this annual gun salute on the reigning monarch’s birthday was a long standing Windsor tradition, and that this year will be only the second time the guns were being fired to wish His Majesty a happy birthday.  He also stated that this was an exciting opportunity for the younger residents to play a part in the birthday celebrations, with Windsor Castle as the historic backdrop.

If children would like to be involved, they simply had to turn up by 11.40 am and they might be fortunate to be picked at random to fire the guns, under the safe supervision of an ordnance expert. The event usually attracts a sizeable crowd and the mayor is looking forward to this very special event.

The 21-gun salute will take place on The Long Walk near the Brook Street entrance.

The King’s educational charity The Prince’s Foundation has also announced it will mark the milestone for fellow members of his generation turning 75 this year with celebratory events at Highgrove Gardens in Gloucestershire, England as well as Dumfries House in Cumnock, Scotland. The festivities will be held on his birthday eve 13th November.

Online nominations for the parties opened on Monday.   Organizations marking their 75th anniversary in 2023 are also eligible to apply.

In signature royal style, the celebrations will feature live afternoon tea and music, plus the chance to dance and chat with others.

The event at Dumfries House will welcome guests from Glasgow and Clyde Valley, Ayrshire and Arran, Dumfries and Galloway. Meanwhile, the Highgrove Garden fête will be open to those from Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset.

The statement explained that the birthday fun had been inspired by the Prince’s Foundation’s health and wellbeing program, which throws monthly tea dances at Dumfries House to bring together those at risk of loneliness and social isolation. The special events timed to King Charles’ birthday will elevate the mission in honor of the royal occasion.

A spokesperson for the Prince’s Foundation told The Telegraph that they wanted to do something special to mark the occasion of His Majesty The King’s 75th birthday. As part of their charity’s role is to serve its communities, they thought it would be fitting to invite a select number of people who are also turning 75 this year to their beautiful sites for a celebratory afternoon.

King Charles rang in his birthday last year with a new royal role. The sovereign took over the title and post of Park Ranger of Windsor Great Park from his late father, Prince Philip on his 74th birthday in 2022.
