Schools in Queensland boost…

-

All Queensland schools will benefit from $35.8 million Commonwealth students’ wellbeing boost for mental health and wellbeing projects.

Queensland’s Minister for Education Grace and Commonwealth Minister for Education Jason Clare, visited recently to Kelvin Grove State College to announce the funding.

Kelvin Grove will receive $50.000, which will offer two key enhancements to the college’s strong present student wellbeing program. To the college’s junior school, $10,000 will be given to implement the Grow your Mind program, an Australian-developed and evidence-based social and emotional wellbeing program.

In the middle and senior school’s student Wellbeing Centre $40,000 will be invested. The Students Wellbeing Boost is a commonwealth election commitment to offer one-off funding to improve students’ wellbeing and mental health in schools.

1.797 individual schools will decide how to use the Student Wellbeing Boost to help their students in Queensland’s.

The Palaszczuk Government worked thoroughly with the Queensland Catholic Education Commission and Independent Schools Queensland to develop the model for allocating Students Wellbeing Boost funding across all Queensland schools.

In addition to the Student Wellbeing Boost, all Education Ministers have agreed to support the Commonwealth’s five-year $307.18 million Federation Funding Agreement to deliver the National Student Wellbeing Program. Under this program, Queensland schools will receive $91.75 million.

The O’Brien Review into the next National School Reform Agreement states that students with good emotional and social wellbeing are more involved with learning and tend to have higher levels of academic achievement and attainment.

Kelvin Grove says that, College definitely positions wellbeing at the center of everything we do as one of the central values of our school community.

We realize that, we need proactive and holistic support, for students to be in an optimal place for learning, that is why, as a college, we invest a lot in, initiatives and programs to support student health and wellbeing.

We welcome this extra funding which will help us to improve skills to support mental health and wellbeing in younger students and also improve our facilities where all students and families can confidently access our wide range of wellbeing support staff and resources, from one central physical hub.

The focus on well-being at school creates an environment of encouragement and openness, whereby students feel comfortable and safe to seek help if they need to.

Beyond just the Wellbeing Center, the culture of well-being at Kelvin Grove is raised through the solid support from staff and the unity of and camaraderie of students. At Kelvin Grove, students feel valued, safe, encouraged and inspired to be their best.

When well-being becomes a priority in education, students become flexible to face difficulty, which allows them to excel in classrooms and outside of it.
