Entrepreneurs pin hopes on new coastal shipping plan

-

There has always been a huge amount of money spent when it comes to road freight charges. India has always been a major player in the shipping game and state governments are coming up with a plan to make the cargo charges for shipping cheaper to create more opportunities.

Companies sometime prefer to pay a little extra to make sure their cargo get to its location on time and not damaged, this is something that road cargo can’t always promise. There was a cargo shipping promotional programme that was being planned it was basically connecting the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT)with the Beypore Port has kindled fresh hopes among importers and exporters from northern Kerala districts.

If this project goes through then entrepreneurs will save huge amounts on their road cargo as shipping will be much easier and maybe even faster. The blueprints for this will be prepared by the Kozhikode district administration to make Beypore port as a satellite port of the ICTT in the future. It is likely to be submitted to the Ministry of Ports within a week.

The statement from the functionaries of the Kerala Exporter forum is that they have been working for the realization of the proposal for many years, unable to bear the ever increasing road freight charges and unexpected hurdles on congested roads. If it becomes a reality, only one-third of the existing shipping cost will be required for container delivery.

This will not be a smooth transaction as many entrepreneurs will still want direct delivery cargo. This means that there will be other options being looked into since they would be saving the money they would be spending on road deliveries. But till a better solution is found everyone seems content with this.
