Sikh panel in Pakistan receives…

Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) is under scrutiny from the Sikh community due to perceived neglect of gurdwaras, particularly one associated with Guru Nanak, the first Sikh guru. Sikh devotees express deep concerns about the deteriorating structural condition of the gurdwara, emphasizing the historical and religious significance of these sacred sites. The PSGPC, tasked with managing and maintaining gurdwaras in Pakistan, faces criticism for what is seen as a lack of attention to preserving the cultural and religious value of these places.

The Sikh community raises another pressing issue regarding the ‘langar,’ the community kitchen, an integral aspect of Sikhism where free meals are offered to all visitors, irrespective of their background. This tradition embodies Sikh principles of equality, selfless service, and community. Reports of stale food being served prompt questions about the PSGPC’s commitment to upholding these principles and ensuring the well-being of pilgrims, both spiritually and physically.

A symbolic concern revolves around the removal of Shri Nishan Sahib from atop the Langar Hall. Shri Nishan Sahib, the Sikh religious flag, holds great significance for the community, serving as not only a religious symbol but also a source of pride. Its removal raises questions about the PSGPC’s understanding of the cultural and religious importance attached to such symbols.

Adding to the disappointment is the PSGPC’s perceived lack of responsiveness. Despite attempts by community members to engage with PSGPC officials, including President Amir Singh, through WhatsApp groups, their questions remain unanswered. This communication gap intensifies the growing frustration among devotees seeking clarity, answers, and decisive action from the PSGPC.

These concerns collectively underscore the deep devotion and reverence the Sikh community holds for these holy sites. Preserving the historical, cultural, and religious value of gurdwaras demands meticulous maintenance, and the PSGPC’s alleged neglect raises doubts about its commitment to fulfilling this responsibility. As Sikh devotees continue to express their discontent, there is a call for increased accountability and proactive measures to address these issues promptly.
